Congestion

Congestion is a common condition that is characterized by nasal stuffiness. It is caused by a swelling in the tissues of the nose and an increased production of mucus. Congestion may result from a number of sources, including a cold, sinus infection, influenza, allergies or nasal polyps. It will usually clear up on its own after a few days, but in some cases the symptoms can be improved sooner with the use of saline sprays, decongestants, vaporizers or antihistamines. Congestion is rarely associated with serious complications, except in infants who may experience difficulty breathing with a stuffed nose.
